I don't camp, but my brother did the entire Appalachian Trail the year after he graduated from college. He said the people you find on there are SO varied. He's NOT a "people person" but had the time of his life meeting such different people

To me, camping is when there's not a minibar in the room.

actually ive been the outdoors type my entire life and never ran into any people who scared me. it's actually the opposite i think people i come across in the woods are more polite and nice then people i run across in my own city. plus at least in the woods i can run around with a 45 and a hunting rifle. just drink more beer next time and you probably wont even notice the hicks passing by.

If by weird do you mean the type that brings generators, propane heat towers, RV's with awnings, satalight tv, and every other damn piece of the city one can think of camping.
