I have a question about the 10 commandments

Ok, seriously... all the God questioning aside... let's pretend for a second that he was real.

What would be the point of the 10 commandments?

Ok, let's say, for the sake of argument, that one day... poof, humans were here. God created us cause he thinks parents are too dumb to do it. So he makes us, molds us and gives us the capacity to do what we do. And THEN... makes rules for us not to break.
    Why?

Wouldn't it just be easier to not give us the capacity to do those things in the first place? I mean, he is God right... he doesn't want you do it, I'd think he could find more clever methods to stop us then send rocks with scribbles on them and say "uhmm.. I'm gonna have to go ahead and ask you to put the new headers on those TPS reports, mm'kay?.... yeah, thanks."

So, we have millions of people all over the world sharing this commandments thing, because laws are so friggin useless right? Who cares if we go to jail, what we should really fear is that will get all bitchy and not let you into his house because you went and used his name in vain. Like God's sitting on his couch going "No way, I told you not to, and you said my name in like... a bad way... and now I'm all mad and stuff. There's nothing you could ever say or do to ever change my mind.... unless like, you ask some child molester for forgiveness... then you can."

Why make people with the capacity to do these things and then say "don't do it"? I just don't get it.

Anyway, Happy Sunday to you... enjoy the Super Bowl

Religion and rational thinking don't exactly go hand in hand Stuart.

Rationality aside, it's probably like requirements for a job position: You either meet the requirements or you don't.

True enough. I guess this must go under the "blind faith" category. Because I really don't think anyone has an answer.

Hmm.. yeah, I can see that. However, if God's so perfect, wouldn't he just be able to make a species that would all fit the requirements right off the bat? Why meddle with imperfections and go "you did something so wickedly horrible, that I'm going to make you say 12 hail mary's until you can't take it anymore... or until you are done 12. That'll teach you!."

That's one thing I'd like to believe myself, that we're rats in a maze.

But then the same commandment believers would be believing that God loves everyone (except the dirty lower than life non-believers who can rot in hell) because God doesn't discriminate.

In which case, he's pretty cruel to those he loves.

This is one of those arguments where the 'free will' thingy comes handy.
                    ..and I'm off.

According to the bible, he did. The're called Angels and they were a perfect race, created by God, before man. The Angels however lacked free will and had to love God which leads, eventually, to man being created with free will.

Pacino in Devil's Advocate had a good quote about that:

My are if you take out the "god factors" from the ten commandments. You basically come up with a morale manual on " how to live your life on a everyday basis".

Think about it most of all the major religions of the world i.e. (Christianity, Jewish, Muslim) they all have their version of what the "morale code" of life should be. And for the most part it isn't a bad way to live granted the "god factor" is removed from it. IMHO

Anyone of religion should be able to answer this.

It would be like if you raised a newborn baby in a controlled environment totally free of wrong doing. That child may be capable of doing all sorts of bad things, but these concepts would have to be introduced to the child first to enable them.

In the Biblical story of Adam & Eve, it was the devil who brought evil into the Garden.
