GFY finds it acceptable to be one way on the boards and another way in real life. Most people here complain of keyboard warriors and the like but this is just the softer side of it. Unfortunately this is one of those if you can not beat them, join them things and that is unfortunate because a lot of business and pleasure that could have been done here if people tried to be what they are in real life on the boards will be missed out on.

Some of us hold our board personas as direct representations of our business and ourselves, others do not take it that seriously and untill people put their foot down and demand that that changes you have only a few options, Deal with the fact that you will have to pm, call or email a person if you want to know them over the net for real or you are going to have to hang with them in real life. You can go the other way also and simply not do business with people who are not themselves on the boards as they are when off.

Just like in highschool, having a public persona is a risk that sometimes pays off in legendary popularity with the side effect of immunity when it comes to being held responsible for actions, fear based respect or popularity and love of the people around you based on your attitude, intelligence and general pleasantness.

So yes she plays the same game as some of the big boys, yes she is probably 180 from her board persona in real life, yes you are right, if she were an upstart the boards would have shit on her, yes you are entitled to your opinion weither it should have been brought out here or not. But the fact of tha matter is she is popular, she does what she wants and she has put in the real world time to be able to do it that way. SOS you have your own little part in her popularity now as you just brought attention to her. I admire your stating your opinion even though it is not how i would have done it, but it tells us that you are a person who we knows will be the same way on the boards as you are in real life, I am sure politics or not, the people who look for that in business connections will seak you out.

The politics work that way also, people may agree with you as you said but only tell you that in private, perhaps that was your motive, perhaps SOS knows how to play the game also

sometimes looking into the webmaster community can be scary (from my POV) and kinda intimidating and having thick skin is easier said then done.

it took some time for me to adjust to everything but im doing well now. 2 yrs ago i would have prolly read this thread and not had enough balls and say what i was really thinking.

It's been 4 years now since I started in this industry and I've learned to grow some really thick skin. We have to learn to take things w/ a grain of salt.

SOS, thanks for all the attention that you've brought onto me all b/c I posted a thread about an opportunity that I had come up. Everyday someone comes on here and posts about how they fucked this girl and bought that car and bitches about something. I had a great friend and client of mine offer to do something nice for me and my friends and I wanted to share it.

Most ppl here don't have the pleasure and automatically assume that it's all for sex and that's it. Believe what you want but I do have some great friends with whom I've earned their respect in the mainstream business world and as a thank you for my hard work sometimes allow me to take advantage of their toys.

Canada is not a very big place and if you don't know, Toronto is the NY of Canada. I have lived and worked in the financial industry for the last 12 years of my life building and strengthening my relationships with the top VC's and I Bankers in CA and the US. In doing so I've come across some of the most influential ppl in NA and have had the pleasure to eat, hang and travel with many. The say that there's 6 degreees of separation, well in TO there's maybe 2 or 3 if you're in the right place at the right time.

I am good at networking, meeting ppl, maintaining and creating relationships w/ ppl. It's a shame that my post came of as bragging but in reality it wasnt' meant to be. I guess I sometimes take for granted that not everyone lives the lifestyle that I live. I don't live in a big fancy house or even own a car. There's no need for it where I live(I can walk anywhere and get there in 10 min) but I have friends who have numerous cars and let me use their houses, cars, pools, etc b/c they can't enjoy them and they know I will and trust that I'll respect it.

Those who've hung out w/ me and know me, know that I don't throw my money around and am humble in my personal life but I love a great party.(noot to toot my own horn but I sure knwo how to throw one as well) I am also one who likes to share my experiences as oppose to brag about them. If I have the opportunity I want others to enjoy these experiences as well.

I've bit my tongue and don't agree w/ everything that is said on the boards and tried to maintain acertain level of professionalism but I guess how others percieve me is not something that I can really control except for hope that they will seek me out and get to know me personally rather than judge me on the comments I may or may not make on the boards.

With all that said, webmaster access is coming to TO in May and you can be damned sure I will be at the helm of organizing the parties and am usually designated tour guide. Come find out if I really have a board persona or not. I thought that I hadn't separated the 2 at all. Sorry about the long winded message guys!
