Another difference is Europe is a continent and the United States a country.
How you can talk about "America's" writers, natural wonders, musicians, etc and not talk about the rest of the continent is ridiculous.
But I agree, feeling superior to others just because you were born somewhere makes you an idiot.Last edited by J. Falcon; 04-01-2010, 05:14 AM.Comment

When you are used to a system, you don't see the problems as when looking from outside. Luckily I'm not living in one of those countries who is taxing 50%+ of the income and everything is overpriced, too.Comment

i was just going to say something like "what do you complain about?"
your country has some of the lowest tax rates all over Europe

Yes, for now...but there is already some pressure from other countries to change that. Thats some fucked up logic, instead them lowering the tax rate, they want us to increase it.

Actually it seems there is some ambiguity. I've always held that "America" is the continent comprising North, South and Central America, because that's how I was taught. Now it seems some count North and South America as two different continents. Also the image describes "United States of America" and "Europe" but then uses the flag of the European Union which is only some of the countries of Europe.Comment

The flag used in the image was for the EU which has a total population that I thought was close to the US but it's 501,259,840. EU = western European countries not the entire continent.Comment

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but we were always taught there were seven continents, including North America and South America.Actually it seems there is some ambiguity. Ok, learn something new every day:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent
"The seven-continent model is usually taught in China and most English-speaking countries. The six-continent combined-Eurasia model is preferred by the geographic community, Russia, the former states of the USSR, and Japan. The six-continent combined-America model is taught in Latin America, and most parts of Europe including Germany[citation needed], Greece[citation needed], Italy[citation needed], Portugal and Spain. This model may be taught to include only the five inhabited continents (excluding Antarctica) — as depicted in the Olympic logo.[23]"email: [email protected]Comment

Didn't you notice about two years ago Europe became a country? It used to be people would
tell you they were "from France" or "going home to Germany". Then you had the whole EU thing,
single currency, etc. and whatever propaganda that now has people saying they are "from
Europe" and "going home to Europe".
Very similar, it seems, to the original idea of the US constitution - that it was a framework for
the 50 separate states to cooperate. As certain people used the federal government - the federation as a means of forcing things on all 50 states, the federation became the
strongest government and started acting as a single state. I see the same thing happening
in the EU. It's sold as a way for separate states to cooperate, but as the EU makes more
and more mandates each individual state will slowly lose it's identity. For historical display only. This information is not current:
