Frankly, depends on a lot of factors. Some you can control, some you can't.

Kinda busy. But in short and to clarify my point...

          Things Considered in Equation:
Type of Server (duo core/quad core)
          Type of RAM
          Speed of Hard Drives
Speed of your Hosting (10/25 mbps)
Your end user ISP and speed.

So your O.P. would have to be based on two identical machines, with all the same pieces, on same bandwidth plans. For that answer, I do not think anyone knows.

It depends on a server. Though, faster ping is to webair.

                  ...what?

                  No, really. What?

It depends on many things: Server hardware, software tuning, cogent bandwidth or better, etc.

You can't just expect a real answer to that without having the above required data. And, no, 'feels like' isn't always the best.

That said, MySQL generally performs better on Linux than FreeBSD, and WebAir is primary FreeBSD.

Also depends on which part of the world your are in and where it is hosted.

We typically employ a strategy where as we optimize your setup based around the technologies you are employing. For MySQL based, we would probably recommend at least a 2 server setup, one running FreeBSD with optimization for web/php, and one as a dedicated Linux MySQL server. We can easily grow this solution into a clustered setup, whereas you'll have multiple web servers load balanced and using or cloud to serve your content, and a clustered MySQL environment to meet your individual requirements. It all depends on what your running. There are many variables to take into consideration =) Additionally, while it was mentioned that we "prefer" bsd, we will host and support any OS YOU prefer.

I have servers with both mentioned hosts. Both run a LOT of sites with each having 1-2 databases. In all honestly Webair handles it better.

Definitely do some shopping, web & db server might be the way to go, but going to depend on how its' optimized, traffic, etc. as stated above.

Just to add to this... If you are seeking virtual/shared or VPS hosting we use highly customized and optimized versions of FreeBSD for webhosting and Linux for SQL. We also run the 2 on separate physical machines so you get maximum performance. These plans are easily scalable to grow with you as your business grows to the dedicated options quoted above.
