    When the dotcom is taken, would you take the .net or whatever?

    Say, you've found a cool domain, but the .com is already taken. .net or tv or .wtf is alread taken. Would you consider registering the domainname with another extension? Somehow, this feels either like cheating or like ripping of yourself if your site gets bigger that the .com (I know I try .com before .net when typing in a domainname that im not sure of).

    Your opinions plz...

      .com will always rule!..with enough and the right marketing .net or even a dash - can do well...

          I agree..the url IS important, but it's not everything! Make sure your site kicks as and people will remember the url whether it's a .com .net or a .nething!

                  I would tend to say, 'keep it to .com only', but really it makes a difference only for type-in traffic. Search engines don't notice if your domain is sex.com, or giantblackdildos.com.

                      depends what domain it is... I'd register sex.tv but not blackbimbosex.tv... use you're judgement. ;)

                          I tend to buy them all when I find a good one (meaning both .com and .net). I dont like people "stealing" my traffic by taking the .net equivalent of my .com
                          If the .com is taken I stay away form the .net
                          For example - thehun referes to itself as .net but I bet everybody is typing thehun.com (or just thehun and press Ctrl+Enter)
                          As people say - you could push through a .net site but consier the fact that you will also help out the .com site on someone else.
