New Designer Introduction - Read it fuckers ;)

A friend of mine from AdamMale referred me here because I'm looking for some design work in the adult industry.

My background is in traditional web and graphic design. I've been in the industry for almost 10 years, doing the "standard" work that designers do. My real passion is to do design that's sexually themed. That comes in many different forms, not just porn. For example: adult toys, underwear, etc. Basically anything that involves selling a fantasy or sexual gratification to consumers.

I've been reading through the forums and it looks like a lot of designers sell services at a fixed price, such as pre-built templates. Cost seems to be the biggest motivator - the lower the better.

My perspective is pretty different, but maybe that will be refreshing to some people here. I don't do fixed pricing or templates. Instead I work with clients to built custom designs around their goals and visions. I work at a rate of $60 per hour and I can create the design, the logo and identity, the marketing, the search engine optimization, and even some HTML/CSS code work.

I don't do discount work or participate in bidding. If someone else wants to do the work for less, that's fine. I like to build strong working relationships and I think it's possible to find something like that here, especially in e-commerce adult sites with growing a customer base.

If this is something that sounds right for you, let me know. You can e-mail me to discuss your projects: designs (at) nathangrimes (dot) com.

Very VERY rarely would anyone hire someone on a per hour rate in adult. Check around. 99% of adult industry designers charge per site.

You should post some link to your portfolio, 60US$/h is not cheap... specially if you are asking for work in a forum. I dont say its not worth, surely it is

Charging a fixed price is a plus, it means all revisions are included in the price so clients are more confident. If I would charge per hour the price would be almost x2... my work worth it , the question is who can pay that?

Designers don't have the best reputation in this industry when it comes to reliability and meeting deadlines, so to ask for an hourly rate from start is not realistic. And while I am willing to pay $60 hourly for an awesome designer once I start to trust him I would never pay him $60 an hour for coding or halfass SEO since that can be had for $8 per hour.

            $60 per hour?
            Well...
I dont see any project in your portfolio that can be priced so much.

Looks like I'm off to a mixed reception. Well, the only way to get started is to put yourself out there.

Get Naughty - I'm fine with being in the 1%. I've been a minority all my life.

Cardinalvices - Thanks for the warm welcome!

sosfactory - Thanks for the feedback. You have very nice work! Well, $60 is pretty common for design firms. I used to work for a company that charged $100 per hour. I charge a lower rate since I don't have the same resources that a full service design firm would have. Like you said, it's not for everybody, but for some, yes. I'm not interested in being known for low prices or budget deals.

DjSap - Thank you for the insight into the reputation designers have. I'll keep that in mind. Well, a good relationship comes with trust, like you said. I actually spend a good deal of my time with a client getting to know them upfront. I offer a free consultation and even a free design proposal. If they love they design, that's when they start getting billed. If they hate it, we cut our loses and consider it even. That's the best I know to approach design in any industry.

Leming - That's below the belt and clearly you have some issues with another designer offering his services. I hope that you are more professional with your clients. I don't play the way you do.

Splum's - I saw where someone else used the word "fuckers" in their subject line, and I thought it was a fun play on the name of this forum. If you're that sensitive in a forum called "Go Fuck Yourself" then it's probably a reflection of your overall personality. I disagree with the statement that I "lost your business". No, actually, I didn't. I wouldn't have wanted your business to begin with, because it's clear we wouldn't be a good fit. So it's my gain actually. Thanks!
