Several people claim to have 'insider information' lately suggesting that this time .xxx will be approved...
I wonder if that information is not being shared with the main goal to discourage us from further protest.I don't use ICQ anymore.Comment

Not likely.... but what difference does the information have anyways? The posting turnout to show a public demonstration to ICANN that .XXX is not wanted by the adult community has been nothing short of pathetic.
The responses from last year were better, 600+ posts... still short of the claimed 1,000 adult webmaster emails writing to ICM that were presented to ICANN.
Right now, there are 465 posts and i would guess that about half of that support .xxx
Where were sponsors contacting their affiliates to get involved?
Affiliates have the most to lose financially, since they hold a majority of the domain names when it comes to the defensive position of acquiring .XXX domain names.
While .XXX is voluntary, it is reasonable to assume that people would grab the .XXX equivalent

What i would like to see is some questions to ask at the xbiz forum of ICM for those that won't be attending.
Questions like "how are the adult industry players who sold out the biz?" won't be a likely one that gets an answer, but ones like:
If i own some_porn_domain.jp and i want some_porn_domain.xxx and there is a some_porn_domain.com who gets it?
would get an answer.

FightThisPatent with all the respect to you (which is HUGE), are you really convinced by Mr Lawley who said that "the sponsored community is everyone who supports .xxx"
if yes, then why wasn't this interpreed that way last year?
from my understanding, the situation has not changed much since last year. Especially since regardless of the minor changes in the proposed agreement, this whole .xxx extension is still controversial.... It's not some harmless .mobi, or .travel...
I wouldn't be surprised if ICANN rejected (or "voted down the current proposed agreement") .xxx again - the adult webmasters are still opposed to it, so are the Christian groups, and regarding Department of Commerce, they may have not voiced their opinions yet, but there must be some unofficiall talks too.
Not saying how I know this, but it seems to me that ICANN is heaving discussions on the .xxx issue so the outcome is still not clear - they can either accept it, or reject it, or do the same as last year and "vote down" the current agreement which would mean that the thing gets seriously delayed again....I don't use ICQ anymore.Comment

Appropriateness of Sponsored TLD Community
COMMUNITY TO BE SERVED
As defined before, the .xxx TLD is intended primarily to serve the needs of the
global responsible online adult-entertainment community (?Community?).
The online adult-entertainment community is primarily defined as those
individuals, businesses, and entities that provide sexually-oriented
information, services, or products intended for consenting adults or for the
community itself. The terms "adult-entertainment" and "sexually-oriented" are
intended to be understood broadly for a global medium, and are not to be
construed as legal or regulatory categories. Rather, the referenced Community
consists generally of websites that convey sexually-oriented information and
for which a system of self-identification would be beneficial.
I think its the cleverness of the crafting of the definition.
Look at the words in red... i think that's where the intepretaiton is gotten, that those that want "self labelling" and that are "responsible" are therefore the sponsored community.
I read the thing as "online adult-entertainment community" as being the definition of the community.

Ya know, not to stir the pot, but you're hitting the target closer than you think: this whole .xxx move (which I've been advised is 'a done deal' and considering some of the players involved, I believe that .xxx will eventually become a reality) is simply one move in the inevitable process of the haves jettisoning the have nots in hopes of ensuring their ongoing survival.
The online adult industry is growing up and this process is just 'teen angst'
As a side note, I'm one of the guys that sent in a check to 'pre-register' the .sex version of my dot-coms back in 2000 or so; and if I'm not mistaken, Mr. Lawley was behind that effort. I'll be sure to ask him about it, and request a refund...Comment

Why has this ?secret list? not been public information? If this was a list from last year then it would be null a void because it was shot down last time, also they would need to have new statements submitted again.
So this brings up the question where the new ?Secret List? is that contains the names of the companies listed on it. Isn't this public record? If it is public record, then we should be able to view it.
If they are hiding the list under some ?Special Deal? secret, then wouldn't that be a violation of ICANN's rules?
I am sure there will be an investigation into this matter and everyone who has sent in a letter in opposition should be pushing forward and demand a full blown investigation from the government into ICANN?s and ICM?s nefarious ways!!!
If they are so proud of selling everyone out, then they should have no problem admitting they are.Amateur ContentICQ: 292 356 077Comment
