    Plesk or Cpanel?

Following on from my pennywise or strongbox thread, which server admin software would you recommend? Plesk 8.1 or CPanel?

Which of the two is easier to use?

Do they both come with full server stats? I see Cpanel have webalizer built in.
Are it easy to add new domains/email to the server through their gui?

Pricing is quite apart though CPanel $48 a month, Plesk $399 one off payment for 100 domains.(which is preferable!)

    What are your thoughts?

I would recommend none. (just get a managed server)
But if you really have to, go with Plesk or Direct Admin
      Cpanel is too bloated.

Think I have ruled CPanel out due to the cost of monthly fees. Will check out Direct Admin right now. Thanks

CPanel is ruled out as too expensive.

Direct Admin does't seem to have a decent server stats package.

What are server stats like on Plesk?

                        Cpanel is a resource hog.

Something along the lines of awstats. I see cPanel has Webalizer built in, but Plesk or Direct Admin don't.

I need to be able to add domains to my server, as I buy a dozen or so a week and its a pain calling up tech support to make folders on the server etc. Also add email accounts to the new domains.

I need full stats for the server to monitor traffic in detail.

So what is the best bet?

                                Sorry, but you are incorrect.

DA has webalizer built in, and you have the ability to add your own domains to whatever IP is on your server/account. Creating emails is a breeze as well.

I use cpanel and I like it just fine. I have the choice of using analog, webalizer, or awstats and if you turn off some of the logging then cpanel isn't near at bloated.

From a technical perspective DirectAdmin is "best" in HOW it does things.
It's much more gracefully integrated into the server whereas the other panels
tend to be clunky hacks. I also like it as a user and the couple of people hosted
on my server seem to like it. It and Webmin are the only two I'd ever use on
my servers. Without DirectAdmin or Webmin I'd rather do everything manually
rather than use Plesk or cPanel, but I'm a geek.

Between cPanel and Plesk, I'd go with cPanel. Plesk is too clunky and intrusive.

Webmin doesn't have as smooth of a user interface as the others, but is great
for geeks with dedicated servers. It's free, extremely flexible with many free add-on
modules for different purposes, and is open source so you can add to it or change it.
There were some things I didn't like so I changed them and sent my changes back
to the maintainer to be included in future versions. If you're not very geeky you'll
want to do everything through the "Virtualmin" module, which gives a more cPanel
like interface than the other Webmin modules.

Wel basically I am fucked anyway and can't use any of them. The server is brand new but already the hard drives are setup and its up and running with hundreds of gigs of content on it. To install Direct Admin they want to install it on a new server BEFORE its in use, so the horse has already bolted.

One thing to note, in my experience you can't point domians to the same shared hosting account in plesk - whereas you can in Cpanel if you want to.

We prefer DirectAdmin all the way... and include it on all standard hosting plans. cPanel has expensive monthly fees and don't be fooled by that Plesk one time fee of $399 for 100 domains... they will get you with annual fees if you want to keep the license current and ever want to upgrade to the latest version.
