Yea, sorry but they actually are better Cheap store bought shampoos have detergent, soaps and other ingredients that strip your hair, unlike professional/salon shampoos.

Depends. If your hair is healthy continue with being cheap. If not try adding asprin and cayenne pepper to cheap shampoo, if that doesn't work try all the expensive shampoos then shave or wear a wig

I used to have a roommate who's mom was a chemist for Clairol. She developed shampoos, specifically.
Her advice: use the cheap stuff, they all do the same job, pick out one you like the smell of and go with it.

As far as I know they are for different hairtypes...

I think that they are a bit expensive though, some of them are sure worth the money...

a lot of the expensive shampoo have a lot of good herbs in it that is good for your hair.

It's kinda like comparing a $2k professional monitor, to a cheap $200 lcd... $2k monitor is better, but for just generic webmastering tasks you wouldn't notice a difference... probably same deal with the shampoo, if you are a guy that just wants to wash his hair, a $1 shampoo will probably seem just as good as a $15 one...

I always buy expensive conditioner and cheaper shampoo

I use Crew shampoo and conditioner which is $10-12 per bottle and it's much better than when I used the cheap stuff. Makes your hair feel better and style better. Expensive gel is definately worth it too.

numerous reports frm good housekeeping to consumer reports show that cheap brands like suave work as well if not better than designer brands and name brands like paul mitchel.

I usually use stuff sold in salons. I like Matrix Biolage, Redken All Soft, Bumble & Bumble stuff. When I was a kid we had Suave and it was junk. I can tell a difference between cheap and expensive shampoo.

It's not just the shampoo either but also the conditioner and treatments you use. And regular trims are important too.

It's worth it to put money and time into things like hair etc... It really makes a difference.

well, at first i thought this to be a valid post. but upon rereading it, it doest make sense, perhaps because i dont know enough about shampoo.

Start getting your hair cut at the same SALON. Not supercuts. Spend a little. Work with one hot chic with beautiful hair and she'll help you get the best hair products that do what you want. It may take awhile...

You could buy a $35 dollar bottle of shampoo and your hair is still fucked. It takes some time to find a good bottle.

If all else fails pour beer in your hair.

This stuff's the best, smells great, and isn't expensive.

Unless your paying for a scent you really like. The price and brand mean jack shit in reality. If you feel better rubbing mango butter and avacodo oil in your hair than stuff that actually just cleans it without adding additional bullshit. Go for it, it is your hair, your money and nobody is ever going to change your mind.

depends what your after.. if its just clean hair then no it doesnt make a difference.. If you want to get laid at the bar.. buy the good shampoo. its all about the feel/smell

What makes salon products better than over the counter products?
As with any product or service that you buy there are going to be higher quality products and cheaper products. Salon grade products tend be much higher in the quality of ingredient but also in the amount of the ingredient.

Unfortunately the ingredients listed on the back of shampoo bottles only list the descending order instead of the exact amount of the shampoo ingredients. This allows many manufacturers to place small amounts of vitamins and herbal extracts in their shampoos and conditioners and then promote them very heavily as herbal or vitamin shampoos when in fact the amount is negligible. These manufacturers are all over the tv with models showing off their naturally beautiful hair.

Here are some of the differences of salon grade and well known shampoos.

Most over the counter shampoos are 97% water! Most over the counter shampoos use harsh surfactants such as ammonium laurel sulfate and sodium laurel sulfate.

These are the cheapest and most harsh of the surfactant causing many people a lslight tingling or burning on the scalp. Sometimes it can cause the scalp to dry or even cause friction at the scalp which causes hair to break easily. Their purpose is to make water wetter, or to put it differently, to help the cleaning agents lather. A surfactant can also be a cleaning agent in and of itself. Salon products should contain gentler surfactants than your store bought shampoo.
You will then see some conditioning agents listed. Your salon shampoo should contain higher quality protein based conditioners or moisturizing conditioners, thus enabling the conditioner to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft and lock in moisture. These quality ingredients contribute to the cost of the product and is why they are not typically found in store bought products.

Lastly, a few ingredients are stabilizers and preservatives, but the most important ingredients to keep your eyes on are the surfactants. We prefer the sodium laureth sulfate. It is the gentlest of the surfactants but will lather very little which is why most shampoos won't use it. Consumers believe their hair isn't getting clean unless there are tons of bubbles. In truth lather has no beneficial affect and contributes little to good cleaning.

To combat salon products taking an ever greater hold on consumer preference. To the contrary, it is our opinion that the sodium laureth sulfate is infinitely safer than the sodium laurel sulfate which is usually found in the cheaper brands.

The feel comes from the conditioner. The smell comes from both. The shampoo is just to clean, the conditioner to detangle and condition. The conditioner is more important than the shampoo to improve the condition of hair. I personally like salon products because I like to pamper myself.

my aunt has been a hair stylist for 20 years. i get any brand I want for free. Ive tried every expensive shampoo out there, every single freaking one. Yes there is a difference between Suave and salon brands. But I can say in all honesty that you dont have to go any more expensive than Pantene. Works just as good as the $50(free!) stuff in my shower now.

Aspirin and cayenne pepper stimulate hair follicles same as other expensive ingredients in high priced shampoos

I'd say it makes a difference.

The WORST shampoo/cond out there is "Tresemme" ...at least for my hair. I tried that once & ended up throwing it out. After 1 week of using it, I could literally feel and hear my hair stretching & snapping in half while I was in the shower.

I went to a salon & bought a bunch of heavy conditioners & shampoo's and brought my hair back to a much more pleasant state. I tend to flip between salon & non-salon products now. I like Finesse, because its lightweight, I like Joico, because its pretty deep penetrating, I like Inner Science because it smells awesome, and I like Bed Head because it doesn't give me the 'frizzies' as bad.

Shampoo I worry less about, Conditioner on the other hand is way more important. Get the wrong conditioner and you're going to end up with hair that doesn't feel "soft and silky" but rather feels "greasy" instead. This is because with a lot of lower end products they'll put a wax like substance into them to create the "shine" effect. The shine doesn't come from having healthy hair, it's from the coating of ingredients that doesn't "rinse off"

And waste a good beer?
