GODADDY coincidence??? I THINK NOT!

So I am searching for some domain names. I gather a few that are available...

my session timed out yesterday.

I went back today to get the domains and alas... they are already taken!

I looked up the WhoIs and yep, they were taken the very day I searched for them.

Coincidence?

Depends on a few factors.

Was the domain really good? What's the likelihood that someone else would want the domain? Who's the domain now registered to?

If you're implying that they registered the domain because they saw that you wanted it, its always possible but kind of a stretch. There have been instances where somebody on the inside was affiliated with a domain buyer, these insiders would track the domain purchases of other "big" domain buyers (program owners, for example) and then leak the information to the domain buyer they're affiliated with. This would only make sense in your situation if you have a history of buying "marked" domains.

Just my opinion anyway. I have over 700 domains with Go Daddy and have never had this happen.

whois.sc is the worst, domain tasters be there a plenty.
But I have seen the same with godaddy years ago when I used to foolishly use there whois, and wild west domains would knab the good domains.

Some may be domain tasters with packet sniffers, some may be internal grabs who knows...

yep and it was definitely a unique domain IMO. That is why I don't think this would be at the forefront of someone's mind at the same time

Its happened to me before, but after 5 days the domain was back on the market. I guess they do it so that you will buy the domains from them at a higher price.

I've heard of this but it has never happened to me with my registrar.

I will check for 100 names on my registrar's who is and I can come back a week later and get those names.

I think you got fucked. I refuse to use whois.sc or godaddy to search for a name to buy. I've heard your story way too much.

But, if this name was related to something that just made headline news then you should expect the name to be gone within this time frame.

YES, people do have access to that GoDaddy database and they DO register your domains if you do not take them that second.

Stop searching on GoDaddy. Use any other service and you will most likely have better luck.

And after checking them available elsewhere and checking them there, they were suddenly regged. Registars have caught on to the value of domain names and some of them are registering what they consider good searches or otherwise giving that info to certain people so theyve the option to reg em.

The same exact thing happened to me, really pissed me off. I searched 11 domains, then went back the next morning to buy them and 5 were taken. All of a sudden, right? WRONG!!!!

I got some real good advice from a buddy of mine who worked at GoDaddy here in Scottsdale which was "Buy it when you search it, otherwise kiss it goodbye."

I buy everytime I search now.
