The closest I come to an R8 is when I take pictures like these but my impression is just what you've said and only solidified because you actually OWN them.
The R8 strikes me as an entry level super car but could almost be a daily driver as well.
It would be hard to find a better all around car for the price. Here's three I've seen lately. The white and blue ones are V10s.
