I'd see some of the current problems as:

- superbly bureaucratic system that already aged to perfection

- overly generous social system that's hardly affordable in the long term

- uncontrollable immigration (those who come to fill the job positions are welcomed, those who don't just only increase the welfare burden)

- no sense of unity

- huge differencies in the mentality and customs in different countries that are a part of EU, therefore it's extremely complicated to push or change anything on the central level

- especially the former Eastern block countries are masters of populism and alibism,
where personal responsibility is something that's never been heard of and everybody relies on someone - being it the government or the businesses to take care of them, this is a communist heritage at its best

Anyway, it's not so terrible here, you get fucked a bit here and there, but hey politicians are only people after all, so give them some credit! )
