Is anyone else still using mini-dv tapes for shooting? It seems like they are getting obsolete? I luv my dvc30, but damm, its so hard to find a minidv camcorder nowadays.

Yup, everything I shoot gets loaded to the computer, only use the mini-dv tape once so I have a copy there, and then it gets put on 2 different hard drives. Gotta protect your investment.Comment

that's what I do
that tape will last a long as time in case anything were to happen to my raid1 array which is backed up to another raid1 array, so in theory i have 4 digital copies and 1 tape.
These huge cheap drives they have nowadays are awesome.
in the early days there was no way i could keep everything on drives,
made it more time consuming if you needed to make a promo clip or whatever later on
you had to find the tape you wanted, dump a fresh copy on the drive from tape, then go from there
having your whole raw library at your fingertips in raw format is great and saves timeComment

Mini-DV tapes are still my preference. They are very easy to pop in a Fedex envelope to send to clients and they offer very reliable long term storage. I recently re-captured a whole bunch of ten year old mini-DV tapes to re-purpose the content for a new clip store, and the footage was still pristine.Comment
