To wit, a Harris Interactive poll conducted in 2005 indicated, among other things, that "Six in ten adults believe in the devil (61%) and in hell (59%)." Call me a skeptic, but even though 60% of the community around me apparently believes in hell and the devil, I remain unconvinced of the existence of those two things.

I do definitely think the community at large has a major role to play in all of this because a billion eyes will always be faster and more ubiquitous when spotting potential problems. WebsiteSecure.org gets a lot of user feedback from our comment system and contact forms. However, as an example... let's say someone who finds adult content to be morally objectionable decides to post 100 comments under different names stating that all adult content sites are unethical, immoral, lack 'trustworthiness' or any other arbitrary statement that aligns with their own personal subjective agenda? It would be very easy to skew a community-based rating system. Worse than that, perhaps a competitor site decided to try to degrade the trust of another site simply by mass-commenting negatively about it?
How does WOT say you should handle those issues?

WebsiteSecure.org does not believe that promoting slanted feedback is a satisfactory method of removing bias from a certification system. For that reason we rely on actual inspections performed by experts to determine the ethical standing of any website AND we verify any comments submitted by the consumer community before acting on them.
Keep in mind, no system will ever be perfect. We provide the best possible solution and so far it has proven to be very effective, for consumers that want to be treated fairly and for website owners like Porn.com who seek to monetize the fact that they go to great lengths to provide customers with real value for every purchase.
