And most of them are horrible hookers if you compare them to other nations. They are CHEAP and EASY hookers, but "good" can be debated.

In all fairness, few of them were built without the help of foreigners. Anytime a huge project like a mall or large building is constructed here, 9 out of 10 times it is only Thais doing the labor, while foreigners run the show.

Like JP said, it's all based on how they learn. They are taught to memorize, not problem solve. Add that to the fact most of the general population dropped out of school around the 8th grade, and you don't have a very well educated people.

Most of the countries leaders studied abroad and came back to rule. From the King to the PM's, one after another, almost all of them learned abroad.

On the flip side of them not knowing who Hitler was, I'd bet my left nut most of the people here don't know about Pol Pot. Though, the Thais probably don't either.

I have a love - hate relationship with it, and this is mainly because I work here and have to deal with the dumbest, laziest, whores, almost daily. This sometimes pushes me to the limits, as I can not believe how dumb some of them are as soon as a camera turns on. If I have to teach a Thai hooker, what she has to do with a cock when it's pushed up against her pussy, then it simply fries my brain. I take that back, I would still complain about how dumb SOME of them are. Example, building a house here, it is common for Thais to HAMMER in SCREWS. So, if you don't stay on top of them or have a good foreman who stays on top of them, there is a good chance your screws are going to get hammered in. They weld with no safety goggles. If they fry out their eye, no problem. They break concrete while standing barefoot or in flip-flips. If they gash their feet ope, no problem. We had kitchen tiles removed from one project and FIVE guys had to be taken to the hospital to get stitches, one after the other, from the broken tiles. I could make a huge list of shit like this, just on construction alone, but I'll save that for a thread for when someone asks about building something in Thailand.

Malay and Chinese hate each other, but Malay own the government, and Chinese own the economy, so they're stuck with each other. They can't count change, can't get onto a bus properly, have difficulties using an ATM, and so on. Let alone doing anything of actual importance, such as maintaining & improving an offshore oil rig.

Just because some people would rather live their lives watching tv and keeping up with the Joneses(typing on a keyboard for hours a day), does not make them any more enlightened than those living in the third world. While some are worried about the lexus payment or mortgage on the house they cant really afford and dont see their children for more than 20 minutes on a given day, others are taking care of their family and are more involved with real things that matter most in life.

So you ask me is it a good thing? I think it is the best of things. While MOST western people chase things that don't really matter in life, many of these 3rd world people are content earning a humble living and are more in-tune with life. What you call ignorance some call bliss.

Problem comes in when you're living up here, and constantly listening to everyone bitch & moan about how poor they are. Yet, you also see how lazy and complacent they are. Just hang out, chat with friends, drink some whiskey, etc. 9am meeting? They'll maybe show up around 10 or 11.

If you choose that life, and you're happy with it, then by all means, go for it. If anything, I'll applaud you for it.
