That's usually the way it works with expats. They spend a year somewhere and they think they know it all. It takes YEARS, often a lifetime, to truly understand another culture and how to co-exist with them in the proper manner. I am glad I did a very very different experience, I lasted 2 months there and I had enough and I doubt I will go back.
I found my own little place in the most eastern part of Thailand, came home Monday morning and I want to go back so bad.
Went from 38 degrees to -2
but thats only a small part of it the whole more relaxed, easy going and CHEAP life I live when I am there.

They are mate but ignorance is everywhere. A lot of Thai people are Buddhist which I think is better than believing in some imaginary guy in the sky or a fucking zombie (Jesus).
The ghosts thing is a bit weird I'll admit but that's ingrained into the culture there.

Eh. It's kind of hard to say that if you've spent any time in Thailand. A few, yes. But the Thai educational system does its best *not* to encourage the expression of brilliance in the average youth. It is focused on rote memorization. As in, accept what you're told because it is what you were told. Do not use the word "why" even if it were to enhance your understanding. Do not think critically.
Memorization leads to the application of processes and that's why it's in place.I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I wish I was drinking wine instead.Comment
