i have quite the odd feeling this olympics is going to be a national embarrassment.
I honestly hope not. Not a fan of the Van Olympic commity as they ran it like a facist organization...but fuck it would be embarassing if it fucked up.
So sad for that guy just saw it on tv rather then the internet. He hit the pole like a sack of potatoes...God Bless the guy.
What do people expect? It's a shame and all, but if you decide to sit on a small piece of wood and hurl yourself down an icy track at ridiculous speeds you should have a firm idea of what the risks are.
That being said, it's a pretty stupid event. What exactly constitutes to a decent speed? What's the skill needed to excel in it? I'm completely ignorant of what factors play a role, but I assume it comes down to how daring you are with your speed, right?
Wow...can you say "padding" and/or "catch fence?" Let's spend millions on an opening ceremony but fuck the few grand it might have taken to make that course a little safer...at least something to give the athletes a sporting chance. I wonder how many coaches and Olympians said, "you know...if someone wipes out in there they're going to be killed" before this happened?

I think someone actually commented this the day before....

I agree, safety netting would have been a cheap and effective way of preventing this tragedy. Instead, they decided this morning to try and prevent future accidents by "raising that section of wall a bit higher".... Brilliant

Well said.Yet sad we have to say these kind of words after tragedies.
