Oh, don't start this argument. Then we have to go down the New York Dolls argument path, etc. Then we would have to talk about that 100 Club gig, etc.
What matters is that, firstly, the chaos surrounding the Pistols actually did have a part in changing a society. You only have to be here now to know that if they tried to ban a song from being #1 because it wasn't nice to the Queen it just wouldn't stand. In fact, banning any song just wouldn't stand. There is very much a post-punk era of UK society. Then secondly, that even if you like the Pistols Sid didn't actually contribute anything to their music.
Anyway, on a side note - The Damned's version of Jet Boy Jet Girl is my fave punk song from the era. When I hear the tune (and I know the Belgian version is first and much different - but still sexual - lyrics) used in kid's shoes commercials now I laugh.
