I can only comment on Costa Rica, it's not $2/day, closer to $20, but there are a lot of factors... Families all live together in the same shitty house they have owned for 50 years... so you've got 8 people all making money living for free in like a 2 bedroom house lol. Also, here you can finance absolutely anything at 48% interest and have your monthly payment dropped insanely low.
When I say it is becoming expensive, I mean the cost to maintain the lifestyle we are used to in north america is not any cheaper than it would be there, so why bother with all the bullshit of living in a third world country if you're not saving money. Import and luxury taxes make cars and electronics 2x as much, restaurants with good food and service cost more than they would in the usa... I could go on.
Locals live on the cheap because they accept a standard of living you have never even experienced before.
