Does anyone remember the thread or the recommended software?

It was some super nifty software solution but the GFY search is failing me. I have a switch around here somewhere but its only for ps/2.

I always did it with x2x or x2vnc for linux to windows... Not sure if there is a vnc2vnc for two windows machines or what.

You just need what is called a KVM system.

Search ebay, you will find many inexpensive solutions. I have used them for years.

forget the KVM - just use Synergy over your network.

I use one keyboard and mouse to control multiple Mac's and PC's - works like a charm

Synergy is much better. It hasn't been updated for quite a while and has some occasional bugs (I use it for 10 hours a day), but it's free, works well and works on Windows, Linux and Mac. Perfect!

Synergy would only work if the OS supported it, right? You wouldn't be able to see (or type into) the BIOS screen?

a KVM switch is probably the easiest way to go. They're not expensive and do the trick. You can use one mouse, keyboard and screen across multiple PCs easily. I work on three PCs at once that way all the time.
