i think it was the TYPE of bands we would play in as opposed to what we liked was what never lined up -yea, I don't think our musical tastes ever really lined up much from when we talked, heh. It's all good, man, it's just different flavors, like some guys like fat chicks and some guys like 'em thin. My favorite music tends to be pretty progressive artsy rock-oriented (A Perfect Circle, Tool, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley) so bluegrass & rockabilly is about the worst sounding crap in the world to me, heh. But there's people that feel the same way about art rock. Doesn't matter to me - that's what turns my gears and what turns me on. Rockabilly may turn you on. Then rock on with it - enjoy it. Doesn't mean you're not a good musician, doesn't mean I'm not, just different flavors. And Cash had a powerful low baritone that is one of the most distinctive voices ever put on record. That makes him a great singer. He didn't have any range and he wasn't always on key but he was distinctive and that makes a great singer way more then the other shit... A voice you can remember is the most important thing for a lead singer, way more important then always being 100% technically perfect... It's 5am here, I'm out, have a good one...
- the above bands you mentioned with the exception of apc=tool light
i do appreciate and listen too.
what you said above about cash deserves a rebuttal
- i thought you didnt recognize cash's brilliance and an artist when it basically was just you not liking cash's cover of hurt but to say cash is over-rated was out there hence my response!
also cash changed shit to dirt because he didnt swear in the later yrs of his life. cash has always been spirtitual moreso in his later yrs.
the lyrics of hurt made sense in regards to cash's life - when he heard the song he didnt think he could work with it (but liked the lyrics) but under rubins insistance to try, cash did and what we have is a moving piece of music moreso than the original. renzor has said this also.
actually thats how the majority of tunes were picked when working with rubin, the lyrical content..

yea, I shouldn't have said that. I don't think Cash was overrated for that style of music, as I have said a few times already, I like and respect what he did in general.i think it was the TYPE of bands we would play in as opposed to what we liked was what never lined up -

I was just pissed and am always pissed when people don't pay respect to the originators and oohhh and ahhh over a cover song. That was the point of my response, not the Cash is overrated thing, but I knew people would respond to that and not to the actual point, heh. That's the way it goes.
Covers have their place but the only cover I can think of that was better then the original is Hendrix's take on Dylan "All Along the Watchtower" - he took it to a completely different place; once again just my opinion and I also respect Dylan as the original songwriter.Comment

And that's the main part of it I think too.
Anyway, I've always been interested in what musicians / songwriters write, more than what they perform (important too, of course).Comment

And I heard that his "One" and "Personal Jesus" covers are great too. Have you heard those?Comment
