Design at 1280x960, but build for 800x600 with % tables.

My resolution is 1024x768 but I build for 800x600 since thats what the majority of surfers still use.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Likewise. I hope you all start using the same settings as I am, so my brain doesn't start to ache when testing with different settings and resolutions.
              ..and I'm off.

<b>1280x1024 but design to work correctly for 800x600 and up.</b>

Once pretty much finished tweaking or building a site that's when I physically set the monitor to different resolutions just to make sure all works as it should and is fully functional.

I also build and test on Netscape 4.08 Pro and don't test on IE till essentially finished also,(or periodically if it be something really big am working on)... I also try to stick to writing standard browser 4 code, or code that doesn't piss off the different versions, like {BLINK} code is ok on IE, it just doesn't do anything less running Netscape etc ... I try to make sure IE and Netscape look as similar as possible, when testing shows them as similar it also helps to eliminate possible discrepancies or errors by showing them up much sooner visually

I test to be bareable at 640x480, but don't give much of a shit if there be some nice horizontal scrolling or the odd overlap of a banner to a side table, provided it's still workable... [Gotta encourage em' to use higher resolutions without fully losing that crap traffic if they have no option, but have a creditcard still... hehe <img src="http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/biggrin.gif">]

<font color="aqua">52% of my traffic is with visitors running 800x600.

                    29% run at 1024x768.

                    10% are 1280 and above.

6% are 640x480, probably don't have much money so I don't design for looks at 640, just with enough functionality incase they be on a crappy computer for that day and still wish to purchase goods over the net

                    3% be unknown resolution size.</font>

I wish my monitor would accept 1280x960 (you know, a SQUARE 4:3 aspect ratio), but it doesn't. I hate 1280x1024 or 1280x768 - it makes things not square. The next square screen size is 1600x1200 which is way too much, even for my 21" screen (for continuous use, anyway).

Good tip that I got from a friend: I always test down to 800x600 (50% of surfers still use that) - I even have my homepage force it so I dont have to switch resolutions and screw up all of my icons in the process (why cant windows just leave them alone!?)

Just a note - everyone with a 640x480 resolution screen sees 99.99% of the webpages out there as complete crap since no one designs for that (some people dont even design for 800x600!!), anyway, so there's not much to worry about - since when they see your crappy page on 640x480 - it will be nothing knew to them. (although, it is smart to try a sneak a sale out of them old farts, too).

1280*960, it's works best (for me) with adobe, dreamweaver etc. I like to see the whole whole 800x600 playgorund, without having to scroll around to much.
