verizon and sprint both offer wireless internet. You would have to buy the card outright thou if you are only going to use it a few months.

Its also just glorified dialup unless you happen to be in one of the handful of metro areas where they have put out their broadband gear.

Yeah but dial up is better than no connex. What's dialup clocking in nowadays? Still 5k a sec AOL styles?

I have used the verizon in a few parts of fl got speeds from double dialup speeds to dsl speed depending where you are at.

im in d.c. on sprint's right now.. im getting 100k/s+.. (EVDO network) but out at my parents house in ohio they don't have the EVDO network and i'm lucky to get 10-12k/s (about twice dialup speed)

Check your neighboors if in a building.
Make a deal to access their wireless router for a certain time.

nope unlike Verizon where you MUST have a phone plan , Sprint doesnt require you to have the phone plan

I would stay away from sprint I have heard nothing but bad things about em.

And on the other hand I have heard only good things about the Verizon wireless.

I've been a sprint customer for 5 years...they are very good. The only complaint I ever had was their pricing was higher but that is no longer the case.

As for their wireless internet...Sprint has the faster network. But as always with cell phone products; depends a lot on where you live

Yep. I have a dialup account here as a backup for when DSL dies or when I roam. You can always get ISDN if nothing else, its decent fast for surfing.

I personally use Verizon for wireless Internet. It works at the lake, which really impressed me, and their phone is the *only* one that works there for me, too.

I'm hoping it works with the Mac laptops, too.

I have had both.. Verizon and Sprint.

I've currently have The Sprint EVDO service on a PPC 6700 Phone. What's nice about this setup is that you can Use it on any computer, Via the standard USB cable which also keeps the phone charged. If you use a Mac, your going to have to use the phones bluetooth which will limit your speed to the speed of the bluetooth but it is an option. O)f course the ppc 6700 actually is very good by itself for surfing the web and a lot of times I don't even bother with the laptop...

Another option for the MAC is Verizon, which currently has a card for the Macs that fits into the cardbus slot. But either solution will work and work great.
