norton sucks.. dunno what to suggest, but plenty of firewalls available other than norton. If you are on a network, software on each workstation is not the best solution anyway.

makes no difference who makes the firewall, it must be configured.
          it doesn't think for itself.
open the firewall (software) and look for "settings" or "preferences" or something.
you have to tell it what to let in and what to keep out.

If you really want to use that heap of junk, try changing the setting in norton that determines what kind of network/connection you have. If it has you set to direct connection for example, change it to home network. That seems to get it working most times

norton fucking SUCKS. uninstall that piece of shit and just use windows firewall along with avg for virus. Do regular spyware scans with AVG Spyware, Ad-aware, and Spybot.

thats not the problem. even when i disable the firewall nothing works. i've always heard people complain about norton but i've used it on my other computer running windows 2000 for 4 years now without a problem. this other computer is XP. also has norton antivirus installed.

only thing i don't like about windows firewall is that it doesn't monitor outbound, only inbound.

Yes I had it happen a few years ago, and I uninstalled Norton, and removed everyfile that even looked or sounded like it was a norton file from my computer.

Noton is a pain in the ass. Every now and then I still run acrros an old folder, and that was 3 years ago.

Go to the settings for firewall and check so you did not block anything
(windows generic host process) is the most common that people block with norton

Hmm... are you sure? Just the other day XP's (SP2) firewall complained that Java was trying to call home.

Get rid of Norton. I even dumped Zone alarm a while back when it kept crashing.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 and love it. easy to configure...All in one protection anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware spam popups etc etc
