Asus Eee PC 1005 series. Just got one for Christmas and I love it. The keyboard is pretty much normal sized which makes it so easy to type on.

            This.

I have a Dell Mini 9 and pretty much hate it... the keyboard is just not laid out the same as a normal one.

Just got an Asus Eee 1005HA and absolutely love it. That extra inch really makes a difference while still being very portable

dunno about your grandmother, but the small keyboard/letters/etc would prevent mine from using it at all. She's 82

                    +1 for the Asus 1005.

I have the 1005HA in blue. It was 320 from newegg.com. Battery life is advertised as 8.5 hours, and I get 6+ out of it.

                    very nice netbook

I have the gateway. But it was closer to 400. I would go with the acer. they are under 300 walmart.com I have a friend who has one and I have liked their product in the past. the damn gateway didnt come with a backup dvd. and netbooks have no cd player to make one.

The option should be available for you to create your own restore dvd, using a USB burner of course.

Do you see it listed in Start > All Programs?

If not, that's pretty crazy and a deal breaker.

But usually, a lot of manufacturers won't include system restore dvds any longer, replacing it with the burn-it-yourself method.

the asus 1005ha has a recovery partition on the hard drive. Push a button at startup and you can overwrite the fucked up partition with a fresh install.

I just sold both of the Mini 9s that we had. Since they have been discontinued and are still pretty sought after by the Hackintosh community, I sold them both for a profit.

I also have a Mini 10v that is a great little machine...running OSX.

                                              Spend you some brain.

If you pick up a Mini 9, Vostro a90 or Mini 10v (not the Mini 10)...you use a bootdisc to install OSX just as you would on a Mac then run a little script or two that fixes things up for you. Couldn't be easier.

Does it run a little swifter with Osx than windows?
