My father died via suicide last year and after seeing how it devastated certain members of my family I would have to say I could never do such a thing.
Plus, when you suicide your other family members are much more likely to do the same. Look at Hemingway for a perfect example.
I personally have no problem with a person who has lived a good life to end it on their terms once their health gets to the point where 24 hour care 365 days a year will be needed to stay alive (if it were not for how it affects the people you leave behind). I am the only person in my family who believes this way as everyone else is very religous.
My father had 2 bad kidneys, diabetes, could hardly walk some days. He had been a strong man all his life and did not want to go out in some care facility where people had to wipe his ass. He decided to end his life on his terms. In his mind he was doing the noble thing because this way he still had part of his estate and that went to help set my mother up for a long time.
But I could never do it regardless if how bad things got because of the way it can affect the ones you leave behind

Someday I have to tell my daughter how her Grandfather died
