tech question: running a computer/laptop on a lcd tv ! PROBLEMS!!!

ok so i connected my laptop (brand new, 512mb graphics card) via cable on my lcd tv...

the problem is the quality sucks and the movies/games are not running smooth...

what could be the reason? any way to solve it ?
