Almost none of them were really ugly to begin with. They just didn't know how to show it (poor hairdo, poorly dressed, etc).

Exactly. I'm sure the producers uglied them up a bit so that the contrast would be that much more dramatic and make for better TV. In the before pics, they're all scrubbed down to no makeup, shitty hairdstyles, wearing frumpy clothes. I hope they didn't actually walk around like that on a daily basis...lol

I don't think it's even so much the money thing as much as how long and how much effort it takes to make a woman look like that. Hours in front of the mirror weren't uncommon for my sisters when I was growing up, and my mom easily spends an hour / an hour and a half in front of the mirror every day, and she looks good for 50 years old.

There are a lot of extremely ugly women, with a lot of extremely expensive make-up...and whoever said it's hard to find a girl that looks great without any make-up, is speakin the truth!
