proxy bidding is different from auction sniping.
proxy bidding works like this:
the current bid is $10 and the increment is $1 a bid.
you want to spend $100 max on the item, so you put that in as the proxy bid.
ebay will bring the current bid up to $11 with you as the leading bidder.
if someone comes along and bids $12, the bid will go up to $13 with you as the highest bidder. if someone else comes along and bids $20, the bid will go up to $21 with you as the highest bidder.
basically, everytime someone bids below $100, the price will increase by the bid increment with you as the highest bidder until it goes over $100. then you'll lose.
with an auction sniper, you set your max bid and it'll bid for you seconds before the auction ends.
