What is the MAX per day TWITTER FOLLOWS you can get away with?

    Roughly. Any idea?

I don't want to get a couple of good accounts canned for spamming too hard. I could test it with a few different accounts, but that's a tad risky, so it's easier just to ask you spammers, I mean fellow webmasters.

Be very careful, I've had a few accounts banned for even following less than 1K people a day... I think it's a time based gauge. Not how many, but how many + how fast.

"Mass following" is something they've really cracked down on.

Cool. I'll get my programmer to write a bot to stagger the follows then, based on a max of around 1000 or less per day. Thx.

Impossible to say, since the algo they use also weighs follow-back ratio, link/tweet ratio, spam complaints, etc.

Under 2k followers, add 500, wait 2 days, delete the non-followers. Repeat. It will take you roughly half a month to get close to 1,800.

Once you reach 2k or close to it, you need to be within about 20% with your following, for your followers list to be allowed to grow past 2k, without your following matching.

Once you break 2k, you can have about 20% more people you follow vs following you. As you increase in size, the % of allowed following over followers gets smaller.

With the twitter tools like twellow and just chat/rt's you can build to 2k following in 3 months..without ever adding people on your side by hand.

Link spamming is like any place... keep it light, keep it niched, and don't forget to inject real material, non-spam, help and rt other peoples crap. I personally do a 2 or 3 text or free of marketing post (or an rt), vs 1 raw spam - daily - on my spammish accounts.

Thus far... 20ish accounts, I haven't had an account banned and all are around 2k or larger, following the same formula.

btw, you need to unfollow people as well in the process... just add add add add isn't "normal" behavior

The more I know about Twitter the more I realize it's not about the volume of follows.

That all depends on how the Twitter account is setup and used. I will admit though, being social greatly helps with RT's which can send great deals of traffic. That's where the big social boost comes from on Twitter, which reaches out to other networks.

If you open an account, start spamming nothing but aff links, you're only friends will be other bots.

If you randomly follow people or niche target them, and you interact with them, rt posts, and talk to the people... the random groups, will respond as much as the targeted niches.

My targeted accounts will get at least 1% of the clicks, from my following. One of our cooking accounts, which is random followings does about 2.5% clicks... Btw, these are avg's for every link posted.

So you don't have to be social, you don't have to target a niched group... but the more you match things up, the more you add in rather than take out... the better the end results will be for you when it comes to global reach.

100% agree on targeting. Also, I agree with you, most of the action is "surfing" the influence of your followers. Also, pushing content onto non-followers who are very
influential can also yield traffic when they RT.

Some good info in this thread.

I'm targeting a specific niche, and trying to get in amongst all the chief influencers. One way is to find one of them, and then contact all their followers. Move on, rinse and repeat.

You can do it semi automatically with tweepi, but there comes a point you have to start culling the dead wood, and know when to stop for the day.
