After training for almost 11 months, 8 hours group classes and 3 hours private classes a week, Sydney Machado promoted me to blue belt today. I'm pretty stoked.
Remember, your posting on GFY, 99% of the guys on here can kick kimbos ass!!!!
I'm a pretty heavy handed striker myself, but I wouldn't consider myself in Kimbo's league. He's a natural striker with an iron jaw. After seeing what he's done to a few faces, I'll stick with "no I probably can't take Kimbo.".

Blue Belt is huge man.....
Congrats...
Blue belts out here can even assist and teach classes..
Thats fucking awsome!!!
Have you gone to any grappling tournments??
I went to some out here in Oregon.. Non-contact, submission only tourneys.. Not the Hardcore cage stuff liek the BP4L used to do
how good is a blue belt? what order do they go in?
In BJJ, they go White, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. It takes somewhere around 10 years of straight training to get a black belt. Some people do it quicker, but on average I'd say around 10 years.

Not a lot of tournaments in Costa Rica to fight in really. I intend to fight in the Brazilian Mundials in the Masters Class (30-35 years old) in the next few years though. More for the experience than anything else, because I'll get killed.
what i like about the bjj system is that when you receive a belt, they really mean something! they're not just handed out like many other "defense"/fighting systems
i'm still working on mine, maybe by the summertime

World gym in Escazu... Awesome gym and great instructor
Congrats Warchild! A blue is definately an accomplishment!!!
It takes generally 2 years to get to Blue belt, out of 100 white belts, maybe 30 get to it.
Yeah, I'd say 2 years is about right if you train 3-4 times a week at a group class. The privates really speed it up though. Also helps to be good friends with your black belt instructor. Lots of training at the oddest times. I get to spar one on one with a black belt for at leasttwo hours per week.

5 days a week at World Gym like Fuze said. The instructor has I think nearly 15 years experience. He finished second in the World's in 2004 as a brown belt. We'd love to have you and you can come check it out free for a week.

In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you spar every class. That's why it takes so much longer to progress through fewer belts. With some other martial arts, take TKD for an example, they teach you techniques and you practice them over and over and over and over and over. When you reach a high belt, usually black, you then begin learning how to really apply those techniques you've mastered over the years. In BJJ you learn both the technique and how to apply it and then actually do it at full speed.
