1) the fish is dead - just because its moving, doesn't mean its alive.
2) being "tortured" assumes it experiences pain in the same way we do... which is also not true
3) it has zero concept of whats happening, doesn't experience terror or anything else. you are simply projecting your own human emotions/experience onto what is little more than a house plant with eyes.

here is some perspective for you.
i was born and raised in alaska
i grew up in the commercial fishing industry
i first began working summers (4 months in the middle of nowhere) with my father on his salmon boat
at 19, i moved to kodiak and began working on large trawlers
later i moved to dutch harbor/seattle and spent my time on even larger trawlers - often catching 200+ metric tons of pollock in less than 15 minutes.
by 25, i was working as a consultant for a russian / american joint venture on several 330 foot factory trawlers
i've seen millions of metric tons of fish come on board a fishing boat and watched them die.
1) its a fish.
2) its dead.
its not crying. its not weeping. its not screaming out its mothers name. it did not have a promising life of curing cancer or world hunger cut short. its just a simple organism, barely more than a worm with a super primitive nervous system and doesn't experience pain as you seem to think it does.
i really don't get some of you people.
you really have nothing else in your life worth caring about?
your life and existence is so empty, meaningless and pointless that you care what happens to a fish?... seems to me that if you guys cared... beyond feigning outrage on a porn forum, you would be spending your time helping war victims in afghanistan to helping to feed africa.
the honest truth is that you really don't care. you don't care about anything but yourself and you need these kind of things to point the finger at, comment on and convince yourself that you do.

They may have a short term memory of only 10 seconds but they appear to have some degree of identification based long term recognition. For example the person feeding them, the food container etc.Comment
