Second, let me explain my worries here: Bad enough having to worry about law enforcement in this business. Now let's hypothesize that I had some domains registered at DN, some teen domains. Mike is a rabid conservative, he doesn't like me, and he's definitely immature and vindictive enough to make it personal. In this situation, not only do I have to worry about the cops, my hosting provider and my attorneys, I have to worry about my registrar, operated by someone whose judgement I have NO confidence in, putting me in the worst legal situation imaginable.
Mike finds out you don't like Bush? Let's freeze your domains and turn you over to the FBI. Mike decides he wants to add your domain to parked.com? If there's a chick with braces on there he can just take it from you. The point is there is now another person claiming authority over my company, my domains and my livelihood. If he demands documents you can't produce, he just takes what's yours.
I'm not saying he WOULD do that, I'm saying he COULD do that, and that's enough for me to want to block him or any other registrar from even having that capability. All these people sitting here posting and rambling on about this or that and how much they hate teen content are two things first and foremost:
1. Hypocrites. They're lying trying to get someone's approval by trumpeting how morally righteous they are from every rooftop, even though they're pornographers. Everyone likes teen girls except fags. I hate hypocrites worse than just about anything on this earth, goddam family values evil bastards.
2. Stupid. They don't understand what a serious thing prosecution and jail time is and they don't have the wisdom to understand that this could happen to them just as easy.
Now it's possible I'm basing my opinions on a wrong assumption, and it's possible that slick actually has REAL child porn on his server, he's been trading it, DN is acting according to instructions from law enforcement. If so, my apologies but all I can go on is what I know NOW. In the absence of this situation, DN is getting involved in areas it has no business getting involved in and shooting themselves in the foot besides, because the next a phishing or CP investigation occurs due to a domain they're the registrar for, they are now legally liable and open to prosecution or civil suit.Comment

When asked who the senior legal person was? No clue.
When asked how does one contact anyone in their "legal department"? By email to [email protected]
When asked what the fax or phone number of their "legal department" or any other responsible party or company officer? They don't accept phone calls.
Slick - Not sure what your lawyer thinks of this, but it's worth recording for future reference since this "domain registration agent" is a joke. Until they do provide *actual* paperwork of this complaint - there is no reason to think it's even valid or worth responding to.

Remember guys, that is all sponsor-owned content, much of it if not all of it from sponsors that many of you also promote. Slick is just an affiliate using that content in good faith like any other affiliate, and the 2257 statements from ALL of those sponsors I've looked at all say that their content is legal and their models of legal age at the time of production.
If you want to call someone's ethics into question you best include the sponsors themselves in this little tirade, Slick seems to be taking quite a fall all by himself here.
And I've known Slick for 8 years now, and have always known him to be a very personable, honest, helpful and professional guy. I don't see him as the type to set out to "pander to pedos" as some would insinuate. I'm sure while he's waiting for word from his lawyer he will work hard to clean up any questionable stuff off his sites so when they do go live again he'll be good to go.

Sorry, but what most people don't realize is that those companies/places/organizations don't always HAVE the legal right to ask for your id. And depending on the country, they DEFINITELY don't. I'm a Canadian. If for example, Directnic asked me to produce those documents, and I did so, I would then be facing 10 or more years in jail for violating privacy laws. It doesn't have to even be the entire piece of ID, just distributing it at all could land me in jail for a hell of a long time. Rock and a hard place? Ya, slightly.My bank asked me for a picture ID when I wrote a check for cash yesterday. The stores ask for one when I use my credit card or write a check. They aren't representatives of the DOJ either
DN is loaded with lawyers. I can't imagine they turned Slick off without a reason, but if they did, he has EVERY right to sue them. He already has an attorney. I suspect, like when he first approached this situation by making a post here instead of contacting DirectNic or his attorney, that he again posted here before knowing the story of what's going on.
But AGAIN, for those of you who feel someone's "seeding" me, lol, if DN screwed up, they deserve to be sued.
Don't forget, the US has inter-state privacy laws as well... Without a lawyer's opinion, who are you to say that it's not violating any privacy laws asking for those documentations without the proper legal authority to do so? I know you guys are all friends of Mike AI, but really, do the research and think about it logically here. This case is best fought by lawyers.Comment

Also what about all these people saying you are linked to known CP sites? Being to busy is not good enough as to your excuses when it comes to who you link to and trade traffic with.
How could you have not thought about all this? Did you not look at some of those photos and think "gee she looks like she is 12 years old I should not put that up on my site with out the proper docs in hand" ? Don't you check your link trades? I mean you said those sites are your bread and butter. I would think you be checking on things of that nature on a daily bases.

I get that crap fairly regularly on an individual basis - always from the US. Their request is always refused and they are told it is not their business. Sometimes it can be asking for corporate stuff and it's the same reply - it's illegal to pass out data relating to corps.

Digg, I don't know if you saw my post yesteday, but bulkregister (where you have darkcavern reged at) has very similar terms and conditions in their TOS.
They can pull a domain for "serious allegations of illegal content" (not proof, just allegations) and not let you transfer them away.

Not quite.
There was one thumb that linked to a site that the Danish authorities shut down. Slick said that was a trade, so it was not linking to his sponsor content (FHGs). However, hs 2257 statement claims that the thumbs come from the galleries he is linking to.
So, say you were a fed and just clicking around, you see the statement, you click the thmb, the Danish message saying they took down the gallery for cp comes up and voila, 1+1 makes 3, the thumb must be cp because it ame from a gallery that another legal authority has already labeled as cp.

I would give someone good faith on a traffic trade or some shit like that. I wouldn't take 14 year old looking content from someone and put it on my site under the persumption that the content (100% of it is) is legal. I wouldn't take ANYONE's word for it. I wouldn't touch the shit without having my own docs in hand.

The biggest problem I'm facing is that my attorney is located in L.A. and the quickest way to go get something going is go get someone in New Orleans, so we're trying to find the right person there. One guy we talked to, has a partner that's out in London now, so he wanted to take the time to review it with him, so he said that he could do nothing until Monday, which as you know, is a few days away, I need action NOW.

Many find it offensive and objectionable.. and you know what? I can understand that too. I think the final word should be the law and legal age of consent. I don't try to tell others what to think or feel or what to masturbate to.
However, the fact of the matter is that he intentionally pushed right up to the line and in some ways beyond the line as defined by law... and he bears some responsibility and fault for that. Additionally, the full facts are not known... yet you babble on and on and on as if they are. Hating authority because of your shitty, abusive childhood doesn't mean you have an automatic case everytime someone exercises authority.
Further, you made up your mind about "right and wrong" from reading the thread title of the first thread on the issue and see it as one more chance to make it a political platform and to bash Mike because of his political views and to take one more shot as you guys do and have been doing for the better part of 10 years. You can't have any discussion without talking about religion and politics. You can't have any discussion without eventually trying to make it about religion and politics.
