it's not crazy. Case in point.. My middle son was born at home, I went the all natural route and didnt get him circumcised. So for 5 years I had to clean his penis for him so that it didnt get an infection. I taught him how to clean it and pull back the skin each time he pees..well, I figured by age 5 he didnt want mom touching his penis anymore and I reminded him of what he needed to do and left him on his own..checking on him during bathing time and such. Little man didnt take care of it as well as he should and his skin was growing to the head of his penis..making it extremely painful to pee and bathe. When my boy was laying onthe table and the doctor stuck a needle straight into the middle of his little penis..then cut the foreskin off... I came unglued and vowed to myself to get this done when they are born , if I were to have another son. The pain little man was in as a 5 year old will always be something he remembers. I cant imagine a full grown man having this done, you would have to put them under knowing someone is coming after their dick with a scapel.Comment

The answer is already given in this thread. Circumcision makes a lot of sense in territories where water is scarce and you cannot wash your dick often enough. And the tradition comes from those territories exactly. It was not known in ancient western Europe at all. Jews spread it out later.

I can add that some time ago in USSR was a theory that an appendicitis is an atavism and is not required anymore, it only causes problems so it must be removed soon after birth, as a big percentage of people have problems with it and have to get it removed lated when it's not that easy as in early childhood. And they start removing it from newborns in some places. It resulted in serious health consequences in those kids later and they had to stop this practice.
Personally I don't think it's a good idea to mess with what was there from a nature, unless there are some serious reasons for this. Which, as I admit, are for a circumcision in those dry territories...Comment

I read this correspondence with interest. I am English and circumcision now is rare in England. When I was born in the 1930's it was fairly common, about 50/50 and I was not circumcised at birth. My mother told me she had consulted our doctor and he didn't believe in it. I always wished I was circumcised and finally had it done at the age of 40 at my own request. There was nothing wrong with my penis, I just preferred the circumcised look. I think it was the best decision I ever took and everything repeat everything is so much better. I find that so many Americans because they were routinely circumcised at birth think they are missing something wonderful. Believe you me guys you are not! From my experience most women prefer a circumcised man, many will not do oral with uncut men because of the unpleasant stink and smegma. I am afraid many men in the UK never wash their penises and there are many that have not been able to retract their foreskins since birth! This should never happen. Well up until the age of 26 i was uncircumcised, at the age of 24/25 i wanted to be circumcised i don`t know why and where this thought had come from i had 2 friends from school and uni that i knew were circumcised and i casually bought this up with them and asked them what it was like, one had been circumcised at birth and the other at the age of 11.
I talked it over with my girlfriend and told her what i thought and over time i plucked up enough courage to visit my doctor but because i wasnt suffering any foreskin related problems he didn`t really want to know.
Reading a magazine i came a cross a advert for a private clinic where they did amongst other things male circumcision,I decided that was for me so i talked again with my GF and she said how about a private hospital so the next morning she phoned the local private hospital and i was circumcised at the Lakeland Hospital.
Now at the age of 31 i think the circumcision was the best thing that happened to me, we have 3 children and our 17month old son is circumcised.
Sex is incredible i last longer, my penis is far easier to keep clean especially when or if we have summer, My wife prefers my circumcised look.Comment
