I used to punch my cat in the nose when he would shit in my shoes - it turned him into the sweetest cat you could ever meet. Wierd, I thought I was a fucking crackhead for punching him (it was very soft but he got the idea I was not happy with him). So, it turns out this guy needed a little punishment. Maybe some cats are like that... dunno about dogs..

Dude, you caused him to have brain damage! Now you have one of them so retarded it is now loyal to you... we can use it to destroy the cat overlords! You just have to keep punching it until it gets so retarded it will reveal the location of EVERY CAT OVERLORD ON THIS PLANET!

I hit my cat when need be. Now I just need to say his name in a certain tone or if he gets overly excited when playing I can raise my hand a certain way and he gets the point.
It is a pack leader thing, animals understand violence and respond to it.
I own one actually..very vocal.I would just yell at her and she would stop misbehaving
Cool!
Ours was caged by a breeder for a year and 8 months before we, basically rescued her. She was WILD and very uncoordinated LOL But a bark in the face by a pit bull and she does't budge, fearless. The devon rex's react to vocal commands better, but as she got older she listens when she wants to
just jerk them up by the scruff of the neck like their mom did while giving a sharp "NO" and they will get the point quicker. dont have to be ruff for them to learn they are doing something they shoudnt.
I dont spank my dog. She was trained with a mild shock collar as a puppy and now she is one of the best trained and best behaved german shephards I've ever seen. Very loving and mellow until she hears the command to be aggressive.
It's never a good idea to hit your dog (or cat, I suppose) anywhere on his torso, legs or hind quarters. A "spank" in the usual sense, on a dog's butt, really doesn't do much anyway as far as getting your intended message across, but it can injure the pet if too much force is used. (aka: abuse)
I firmly believe it's better to use a combination of stern tone of voice and when needed, a light tap on their nose. It's a harmless yet effective way to drive home a point with the animal, and they just plain don't like it, thus they get the hint pretty quick.
Being consistent with the disipline is the other element vital to the equation. No sense letting something slide five times and then decide on the sixth time to get off your lazy ass and kick the crap out of your pet.

Absolutely. You can't reason with an animal that isn't capable of reasoning, so you have to communicate discipline and unhappiness with their behavior in the only way they know: physical discipline.
Good on you, as long as it isn't overly violent or abusive.

Exactly. I got my Boxer when she was 8 months old, she'd been basically stuck in a crate her entire life and wasn't even housebroken (she was a rescue), but doing this helped her get the point very quickly.
I have 12 cats and 2 Boxers... I don't abuse them, and I don't "HIT" them, if my Boxers act out, I take the leash and pop them on the back hip area with it to get their attention but never hard enough to cause them to yelp or anything like that.
With my cats, they are a completely different story. I have 12 of them, they all know their names and they all listen to me. I tried the squirting water from a watergun at them like they say to do, MY cats thought it was a game and didn't respond to that at all... I did everything to keep them off my counters, and I finally got this brainstorm of an idea in my head to thump one on her ear, not hard, just enough to stop her in her tracks..... amazingly this worked so well that all I had to do after the 2nd or 3rd time was to come at her like I was going to get her ear, and thump right beside it, not even touching her, but she heard the sound of it and stopped doing what she was doing.
Of my 12 cats, I don't have one that gets on the counters to actually DO anything, they may put two front feet on my bar, but that's about it, and I say their names and they get down...
We have the most well behaved cats on the planet. And I found out that Persians and Himalayans are too damn lazy to jump on the counters, they want you to fucking SERVE their shit to them on silver platters, to hell with actually working for their shit and getting on the counters, "Bring it to me bitch".. lmao
I won't post them all here, it would take a week to load the damn things, but here are MOST of my cats, I think just like 3 are missing from this listing of them. Sorry about the redeye thing, I am not a photographer at all..... lol
Click here for My Cats, they are all a buncha damn spoiled brats that have NO idea what fear is, but they DAMN well know what respect is.
