From 1840 Russians took part in international chempionships for best photoshoot. Won gold medals in Paris.
Started "Photografic journal" in 1887
From 1895 started to constuct different models of photocameras.

Yes. Its' development stopped a little during the time, when the country was separated from the other world from 30is. But you can't say there was no cameras and no possibilities to shoot in Russia till 1970. I have lots of pictures of my Russian grandmother and her familly. My mother made pics by herself in 60is.
