I've also had problems with stress related heart issues. My heart has been skipping beats on and off since I was about 17, and occasionally palpitations for 20-30 seconds max. It's been looked at a couple of times but there's never been anything conclusive. It all came to a head about a year ago when the occasional palpitations didn't stop after 30 seconds. I was feeling dizzy and clammy. I didn't think it was a heart attack but I wasn't going to mess around, I woke my wife and told her to call an ambulance. They quickly determined it wasn't a heart attack (the medic suggested it was a panic attack) and later in the hospital after several tests they also concluded that they couldn't find anything wrong.
So I was sent back home, but things seemed to be worse... I was trying to sleep but every time my heart skipped a beat then thumped hard (almost to compensate) I would literally jump, my body would spasm as if someone had given me a shock. I went back to hospital and stayed overnight for observation. It was there that someone FINALLY explained to me what an eptopic (sp?) beat was, that an occasional missed beat or weird beat is relatively normal and nothing to worry about.
From that point on it was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I realised that a lot of it was in my subconsious mind, the stress levels (and therefore the reaction) were increased by me freaking out about it. After a day or two things settled down and since then I might only notice an irregular beat a few times a week.
I don't know if it's going to be that simple for you but I urge you to work on the stress related part, see if you can talk to someone who can explain things and reassure you, perhaps look at relaxation techniques.
Typing out text like this 2 years ago would have made me very nervous and my heart would have been going crazy.
Good luck!
