ANDY???? Do you mean END religion? If so, you are right, and that is part of the problem. Liberals are more likely to be apathetic. Moderates are MUCH MORE LIKELY to be apathetic. Right wing Jesus freaks, on the other hand, do know how to organize. You have to give them that. That is why it is critical for those of us who value REAL FREEDOM to fight them and strike them down at every chance.
Not all liberals are as anti-religion as I am. I had two friends die because of their stupid religious beliefs, one a suicide because the morons he hung around with convinced him his soul was possessed by demons, and the other because he was an epileptic and had a seizure at a prayer meeting and instead of calling 911, his 'fellow christians' decided that only prayer would show god the necessary faith to heal him miraculously. Well, either god decided to blow them all off or he couldn't have intervened even if he wanted to BECAUSE HE DOESN'T FUCKING EXIST.
I don't know what kind of evidence these fucking morons need.
One of many recent studies on the effects of prayer showed that it had ZERO EFFECT. In earlier studies the patients were told that they were being prayed for and they seemed to have a better result. In this study, however, no one was told, and there was no evidence of a better outcome. That tells me that what was responsible for the outcomes in the earlier findings was NOT PRAYER, but the reduced stress likely brought about by a subject BELIEVING they were being prayed for. This explains what is behind the idea that 'religion is good for sick people'.
Present these findings to the loons on the right and you will get replies like 'I don't care what you say; I KNOW prayer has worked for me.' There is no fucking convincing them. I guess it is true when they say YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH STUPID.
On the documentary 'Religulous', Bill Maher interviewed one wing-nut who tried to argue that he knows his god exists because one night at a party he prayed that it would stop raining it did.
But if GOD had actually answered his stupid prayer, I would wonder why a supposedly loving god would grant this inane idiotic meaningless request and ignore a devoted mother at the bedside of a dying child praying desperately for divine intervention. That guy thought his god was loving. To me, he was a sick monster who would rather turn the rain on and off than do any actual good.
