Get ready to flame me, but in general, Americans don't know that much about WW2 history, or more specifically, the social history.
#1 - Not all Germans were Nazis. Making Nazi jokes, going to Germany and making Nazi jokes will probably get you beaten up - and it should, too.
#2 - Not all French were collaborators. The collaborators were called Vichy French - and they were despised by the french for being.. cowardly collaborators. Just like there were Dutch collaborators, just like how Franco-Americans went back to Germany to fight with the fatherland.Comment

What I do remember very well is the Vichy French pushing 75,000 Jews into the cattle cars on the way to Auschwitz while the brave and gallant Charles de Gaulle and the rest of the Free French Forces sat in cafes in London getting drunk and singing fight songs about the glorious "La Résistance" while Europe and Russia burned.
