    Huh, they mention several officers who've been shot in the past 20 years including a mountie but make no mention of officer Reg Gulliford who was shot in the line of duty outside of Portage La Prairie in the late 80's and maimed for life. I worked at St. Boniface hospital all through those years and had occasion to help look after him in the intensive care unit.

    That guy was a hero.


    Sounds like these 3 officers will survive. Yes, we have crime here in Canada.... like the article says -- "It's been more than 21 years since a Winnipeg cop was shot on the job." ... we don't have a lot of crime, but every place has "some" crime.

    It's otherwise pretty peaceful and safe here in Winterpeg. Usually. Nothing at all like most big American cities.

                        Handguns aren't readily available up here. They are rather hard to get legally, so not too many people own them. Just about everybody has rifles though, which work just as good.

                                                                                                                    I was in Winnipeg's "Diamond Club" up in the N end back in the early 90's when two gang-bangers suddenly opened fire on each other. 3 people were wounded that night, and when it happened people were diving under tables for cover... except me. lol, I had seriously never heard that kind of gunfire before in my life except on TV, and at fist thought it was someone lighting off firecrackers in the bar. I stood there looking around for the pretty fireworks until my buddy pulled me to the floor.

                                                                                                                    Point being, this kind of thing in Canada is not the norm, it is the exception.

                                                                                                                    But we like the US and probably several other countries too could stand to have less illegal/unregistered guns floating around.

I love it when they have they have big "gun turn ins" for like $50 each, or a toy or something and everyone gets all excited that 100 or so guns have been brought in. People are just taking in their extras that they probably stole in the first place
