    GFY is under attack

    We are currently under major image source attack.
    The site http://www.elepantlist.com/ is image sourceing
    http://crazygals.com/gal/050320022/index116.html
    this site is opening GFY. We are working on the probelm, but for now the board is running slow.

          So just block access from that url with htaccess ... ?

              It's a 404 redirect, it won't work.

              We have blocked it, but it still creates a load on the server. Until we blocked it, GFY was down.

                              I am assuming that the culprit here is elephantlist for sourcing the crazygals page.

                              Last year sometime I had a very similar problem with this site. He was image sourcing a bunch of stuff off of my tour causing my bandwidth to skyrocket. It was so bad I had to throttle my own site so that the server wouldn't crash.

                              I had to go so far as to contact his hosting company which at the time was flying crocodile and sent both him and them a cease and desist order.

                              You would think he would have learned from that incident but apparently he did not.

                              Your best bet I would think would be to contact the hosting company and mention the legal ramifications of bandwidth theft. They should quickly put a stop to it then

                                                  Mike I wrote Hoffman at Elephantlist the minute I hung up with you, I cc the letter to you and lensman. It isnt Elephantlist doing it to you its the guy hes trying to fuck that is redirecting the traffic to GFY. Hoffman just wrote me back and its stopped. Hoffman is a very good guy. this was done to get back at some scum that was cheating him, and not GFY.

                                                      If you want to fuck them back really hard, find a resource intensive URL on their server, and img src it 100 times from one page.. to make it actually load instead of just using the cached copy, append a dummy query string. Like so:

I really doubt he's at fault here. Get your facts straight before forming a lynch mob against him, he has a LOT of HIGH TRAFFIC friends that WILL stand up for him and we get pissed off when he gets accused of crap he's not really responsible for.

                                                                                                                              I don't know who the owner of crazygals.com is and frankly it really doesn't matter much but if you look at the gallery url that was 404'd and change the index numbers you can see that he is likely using some sort of autosubmitter judging by how the buttons are laid out on the page and the numbering system

                                                                                                                              Those are the gallery URL's preceding and following the one that was 404'd

                                                                                                                              My best guess is that the owner of crazygals fucked up somehow and the gallery was 404'd. But for sake of arguement let's assume that crazygals did do something to cheat elephantlist in some way. That still does not give him the right to do what he did.

                                                                                                                              This is Hoffman's MO too as he has done this in the past. Whether or not he may be a good guy to other or if he has boatloads of traffic none of that really matters.

                                                                                                                              Let's say you owned a store and one of your suppliers fucked you over in some way. That doesn't give you the right to set his offices on fire does it? Bad analogy maybe, but hell its late here LOL.

                                                                                                                              All I am saying is that what he did is flat out wrong and it not only effected the intended recipient but other sites as well as GFY felt the brunt of this attack.

                                                                                                                                      This exact same thing came up here roughly 6 months ago - Elephantlist image sourcing someone who screwed him in some way. It was a DOS attack then, it's one now. His host is in the US, crazygals dude should report the fucker and threaten to sue the ISP if they don't stop it. That'll get his dumb ass shut down fast.

                                                                                                                                      EDIT: I remember who he was image sourcing - it was "juicylinks" for not wanting his traffic and redirecting it after elephant list "picked up" one of his galleries. GFY no longer seems to have the thread, or my search skillz just suck.

                                                                                                                                              I would say that Mike is probably a disinterested party, has no motivation to lie, and has the technical expertise to determine what's going on. Most likely the img src was removed, as I don't see it.

                                                                                                                                                                          I don't care what the situation is, absolutely NOTHING justifies this lame IMG SRC attack that tgp owners like to do. Many innocent people get hurt in the process, if a site is on a virtual box, all the other customers on there get hurt, potentially everyone on that ISP gets hurt, and in this case GFY got hurt. If you have a problem with someone, DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! Write some good scripts and DON'T LINK TO THEM! It isn't that hard to blacklist someone.
