    Trans fats banned in NYC!

Time to educate yourself on trans fats!

Trans fats are believed to be harmful because they contribute to heart disease by raising bad cholesterol and lowering good cholesterol at the same time. Some experts say that makes trans fats worse than saturated fat.

New York's Health Board votes to ban artificial trans fats from restaurants, restaurants must stop using most frying oils containing artificial trans fats by July, and artificial trans fats must be eliminated from all restaurant foods by July 2008. The ban contains some exceptions; for instance, it would allow restaurants to serve foods that come in the manufacturer's original packaging.

I personally think that's clever. Use the goddamn bus or subway if you don't want to pay up.
              ..and I'm off.

I don't think you should have to pay to drive unless it's a highway with tolls which goes to the cost of constructing it. Or a bridge. But you are paying for the car which you pay tax on. Then insurance. Then you pay gas which has tax. Then you pay for parking.

I don't think this is a good thing.

I say this because I see it as a limitation on personal freedom, and I don't think that a local government should be deciding what I can or cannot eat. Should ice cream be banned? Eating ice cream certainly isn't good for you, either.

I see this as exactly the same as banning smoking. I hate cigarette smoke. But I think that a restaurant should be able to allow smoking if they choose. I have a choice to not go into a restaurant if I don't want to be around smokers. I don't have "a right" to eat in a restaurant and have it my way. If that were the case I'd have my meals served to me by pantyless 18 year old cheerleaders.

I believe in the free market system.

I think you'll see a lawsuit from this one, because unlike their argument about smoking in that it's harmful in a secondhand nature (which is 99.997 bullshit) eating trans fat is only going to potentially harm the person eating it.
