World in Conflict is a year or so old, but the graphics and gameplay are pretty awesome, I still play it pretty much everynight.
It's not your typical RTS where you build a base and stuff. In WiC, you just drop units and start taking control of the map, smashing all who oppose you!Comment

Supreme Commander is generally considered to be one of the best recent RTS games, though I've not played it myself.Comment

I like that one, too. Before that I was a huge Age of Empires III fan. Very fun to play even on single player campaigns.World in Conflict is a year or so old, but the graphics and gameplay are pretty awesome, I still play it pretty much everynight.

Tom Clancy's Endwar was pretty cool. A lot of people complained that it was too simple but I liked it. You can only see the map from the viewpoint of your actual units so it adds to the stress when you are fighting instead of just being able to look down on everything like in most RTS games. The action starts right away, there is no mining or building up for the first 30 minutes.
Has a cool voice command so it's fun to say (Air strike on Hostile Six - Deploy Gunships - Unit 1 secure Alpha) even though you sound like a total dork if anyone else is in earshot.
I only played it on the console but I'd assume the PC version is the same.
There are no tech trees or anything like that so if you like that sort of complication, don't get it.Last edited by mynameisjim; 10-18-2009, 11:26 PM.jim (at) amateursconvert . com Amateurs ConvertComment

What he said. Order of preference:
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath (expansion)
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: uprising (expansion)
A good diversion, and still winnable if you are a casual RTS player.Comment

I agree, I played that game all throughout highschool. Still one of the most popular online games in the world in the competitive gaming world.
