Say you had a friend whos husband is away in the Marines, he is somewhat a deadbeat dad, he spends money on shit he shouldnt be buying, so Kelly can't afford to buy her daughter toys for christmas, WOuld you buy the kid some toys or let them deal with it on there own?, I have known kelly for 16 years and she is like a lil sister.

If it was a friend I had known for 16 years and was like a sibling to me, then I would buy their child toys. I would likely grumble and bitch about it in my mind, but I wouldn't let the child go without.
I'd also suggest they to as JTF mentioned, and find out who helps military families.~

Hell yes I would. You have known Kelly for that long, I think it gives you the right..... I wouldn't go buying Kelly diamonds or anything, but for her kid, hell yes. Christmas is ALL about the kids.. so hell yes, go for it. Don't give it to them like some pity thing though, you have known Kelly long enough to "just do it to be doing it" sort of thing. I don't see anything wrong with that at all. In fact, I think it is very noble of you to think about her kid...
What I would do if it were me, buy her a bunch of small things she likes, Barbies, Artsy stuff, whatever she likes... kids LOVE opening lots of packages, I know mine do. My 8 yr old would rather have 30 small things than one big thing. And I agree, don't go over the top... just the smaller things.
