not that I am a total expert but I have had many discussions with lesbians including doing photoshoots/films etc. over the years. Just seems to be a common answer I get to that question. May not be for all of them, but when they do go out and buy a strapon as an example - they do not want it to look like a man's penis in anyway - so they generally choose the smooth ones if they can with different colors so that they can keep the mental image cleaner.
