Cellphone Numbers Go Public This Month

    Just passing this on...

    National Do Not Call Registry

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.

REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

    HELP

OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON .. It takes about 20 seconds.

What is your source for this? Snopes declares this to be false.

Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words 'The' and 'IRS' together it spells 'Theirs.'

My aunt gave me the number, I call it and the messenger sounded very legit.

Snopes says, "Cellular users can choose to register their cell numbers with the national Do Not Call registry, but doing so provides only a small additional measure of protection, since FCC regulations already in place block the bulk of telemarketing calls to cell phones."

Since some telemarketing calls to cell phones are permitted by the FCC, I figure any additional protection is worth the twenty seconds it takes.

This email hoax has only been going around for how many years now?

Your cell phone number will never become public unless you opt for it to. They cannot publish your number because you have to potentially pay for all calls. One company wanted to publish a directory and that idea was shut down.

I wonder how many people were dumb enough to do this? This is a great way to harvest phone numbers. Any time you call a toll-free number, your number is available to the person that owns the number. This is so even if you try to block your number. In fact, as a toll-free number owner, your bill is itemized with these numbers and if your bill is delivered electronically they are easily electronically harvested.

Yes, if you gave it out as part of an existing relationship with the caller.

I hope it stays that way. While following the 2008 presidential elections, the polling organizations were complaining that they could not get a good sample for a great deal of the population because they did not have land lines. I can see some lobbyist paying big money to have this changed in the future.
