IMO there are people who want to kill themselves and they won't ever be hsppy alive.I fell like if you want to that's on you. I know that depression isn't fun as we all know but I think there are people who have very sad life's and mental issues and we should let them pass if that's what they want. That's probably fucked up but that's how I feel about suicide. She did the right thing with that letter

Yeah, and it was her life and she did not want to live anymore, who's to tell her she can't kill herself, a doctor? If I did that, and a doctor ignored my request, which was against the law to do... I would sue the fuck out of him and that hospital for unlawful practices.

You might want to look that law up. I'm not trying to out smart you (okay, yes I am ), but I've been thinking about this and I'll bet the laws aren't the same as applied to doctors.

It may be different in the UK, but I think here in the US if a doctor thinks you are mentally ill they can get a psyche evaluation and then treat you as if you were not capable of taking care of yourself or deciding for yourself. I'm not saying this person would have had that happen to her, but clearly she was crying out for help. If you want to die, you kill yourself, you don't make a spectacle of it which is exactly what she did.

Yup in the US they can do a couple of things. One being getting an injunction so that they can prove that you are of not sound enough mind to make such a choice. If you have a living will or a few other such contracts, they can also strong arm the legal decision maker into what they way. Then of course if they get a body in with some life, no family etc. They can do whatever the wish to stabilize the person until identity and family is reached. A note alone would not prevent them from doing it, unless they were on your side of the fence.

Right. Like if it were an elderly person who was clearly in poor health and had been for a long time and she came in with a note on her that said she didn't want any measures taken to save her life, they would probably honor something like that. When a young person comes in and tells them she has drank radiator fluid and wants to die, but wants them to make her comfortable, but not help, it might be reasonable to thing she is not of sound mind.

Getting an injunction takes too long to save the life of someone who's in acute danger, and while a note alone isn't enough, a note handed by the person themselves is.
