I just loved the question from the committee "What is your view about the way the US is currently mistreating tourists and visitors at customs on arrival"

You know, I wouldn't put that and the new 'not really a visa but you need one anyway' forms past having hurt them. You can not easily travel in and out of the States these days.
I hope whoever does win is allowed to enjoy the feeling. When we won, it was amazing. My phone rang less than a split second after with people booking space on my floor for the event. The whole town smiling.
Then the next morning we had bombs blowing up the underground and buses. Emotional whiplash of the extreme.

Agreed - yet China got the Olympics with their promise to stop human rights violations, already the committee has negativity by assuming USA is mistreating anyone.
I totally disagree with this decision - Chicago may be rough, but seriously is better than most on the list - and don't forget the $$ from those watching the games would be higher on American soil
Maybe we should be asking the committee, "IT'S BECAUSE WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT ISN'T IT?"
Great, now the republicans will waste all the good tv airtime accusing Obama of wasting SOOOOO much time on this while people die without healthcare. Thats actually what gets me the most about this, is the ammunition his opposition gets now for 15 more minutes of wasted time.

Agreed, it doesn't look good for Obama... I voted for him, and wish him the best
The USA has had it more than any other country and one in recent memory was seen as a failure. If they want to introduce it to a new continent I can see it. Madrid right after London would take some explaining.

Take this as somebody who lives in the city preparing for the next summer olympics. If he had won it for them he would have been having shit slung at him for MUCH longer. Ever cent it went over budget would be at his door.
lol, good point, Sarah.
I'd rather see it go somewhere scenic and green and beautiful anyway. When I think of Chicago I think of big buildings and dark dreary rainy/snowy days and Oprah, lol.

Oh and Oprah was so rude in the one bit I heard form her. She said to the press of Denmark 'this is a nice city but ours is better'. Wow, go home then.
I vote for Rio - it's time the olympics came to south america...
It's true about customs and security when flying into the US, as ppl say "It's the world we live in"
This is partly payback for 8 yrs of Bush, no one will admit it but it's true...
Thing is Todd, it is the US airports. Even 'friends' such as the British with no visa requirement now have to fill in forms days before they fly or they aren't allowed on a plane. AND they have to be done online. So, anybody wanting to travel to the States from the UK without the internet can't go. That is the countries without a Visa requirement. When they get there they are then stuck in huge lines requiring special passport chips and getting their eyeballs scanned and fingers printed.
Maybe they just thought you can't have the world come to you like that.
100% correct....this is back lash for Bush. The rest of the world is pissed and showed it by booting us out of the race so early. They were making a point.
And Rio should get it about time the Olympics goes to South America and the timing is better for me don't have to get up before noon to watch the early morning events ;)
In the near future and in generations to come in the future - we will most likely become "1 world" instead of many different countries - especially when travel to and from other worlds is more possible.
Govt's and ppl will give up more privacy for more security - retina scans, etc, etc will be normal.. I don't agree with it but it's going to happen...
Many European countries are in the no visa rule to come to the us but we still make it a pain in the tush
I am not hating on my country but with 2 wars, gitmo, etc, etc the world for a bit is done and sick of the US..
Yes - the world wants the us to get the world out of the current economic state were in but it's somewhat of a payback visa vi the olympic games...
Obama did what he had to do, he would of caught more flack not going and us not getting it then him going and we still losing out....
Now I remember the movie, Remember the Titans (I love that flick) "it's the world we live in"

I am listening to Roberta Flack - Killing me softly right now, love that song
But anyways I truly feel bad for my president.. Not because of the Olympics - that's just politics but because our president came into office on Jan. 20th with such a fucked up hand to deal with, 2nd worse to when Roosevelt came in....
It's not cry me a river, he ran, he won - it's his job now but to imagine the shit..... I dunno......

I wrote a long reply to this, Afghanistan, Iraq, Visa to the US ($10 fee) and so on but its a sensitive subject so I'll just keep quiet.
Hard to believe that our news all together spent maybe 30 total minutes on this when obama's met oprah's, and now they're looking like they'll spend days on the rejection and feel like a hurt puppy.
Really annoying to have to flip to Foxnews to see some news other than crying over spilled milk.
Forbes rated it the third most miserable city in the country in their list of most miserable cities, declaring: "Lousy weather, long commutes, rising unemployment and the highest sales tax rate in the country are to blame for the Windy City being near the top of our list. High rates of corruption by public officials didn't help either:"
Everybody I know who lives in Chicago wants to move out.
Chicago is a freakin' hellhole and one of the last places I'd ever consider living, although Detroit, St. Louis, Memphis, Stockton, Killadelphia, and Newark, NJ just barely edge it out from very bottom of the barrel. Chicago is not high on my list of places to visit either.
Between the corrupt government, the corrupt President pushing it, the high taxes, the high crime, the pollution, the cronyism, the gangsters, and the gangs... it is a good thing Chicago lost.

Boohoo. Obama's buddies in Congress gave us the overspending which caused the current economic mess, and Obama tripled the deficit since. Obama and his buddies are the cause --not the victims.

I see, so in your mind our president and the democraticly controlled house and senate did all of this in the last nine months in office?
Let's not forget what Obama walked into on Jan 20th.... Let's not confuse facts and reality
