Part of the problem with the case is despite all the alligations, he was in a position of authority. She wanted to be in movies and perhaps felt if she didn't do what he wanted then no stardom for her. Hell maybe she wanted to fuck him because she thought it would advance her career. There is just so much room for manipulation in these cases. You can't just say, oh you banged a 13 year old. Here is a slap on the wrist and a juice box just because the girl "may" be mature or a slut or whatever. I don't agree with throwing people in jail for life either but the message has to be sent that its wrong in some way.

I agree with what you're saying. Fact is he got scared and jumped bail. So now he finds himself looking at doing real jail time instead of the little bit that he got back then. Obviously anybody with any common sense knows better than to do what he did. But throw a qualude and some good pot and coke on top of it...and you're brain tends to take a few hours off. His sure did.
I guess the bottom line is...he's fucked, she gets to be on Larry King, the U.S. looks like a police state to the Europeans and I don't even know how the media in third world, middle eastern, and Asian countries are spinning it.
This just kinda seems like one of those things that the U.S. govt. should have just left alone.
I know that might sound crazy...but as intelligent people we need to be able to take things on a case by case basis. And sending the goon squad to "capture" an internationally acclaimed director while Bin Laden still runs around free just seems kinda dumb to me. But that's just my opinion.
One thing for sure...it was a nice job of directing the countries attention away from all the deals they are cutting with the pharmaceutical companies on "health care reform" and also getting the media to cover something other than the fact that so many people are unemployed...or that we are sending more troops to Afghanistan.
They had the Colosseum for the Roman populace to keep them entertained. We get stuff like this to keep our minds off of really important stuff I guess.
